New work

2017 ended with a publication of my story “Silent Protest” in one of my favorite places, Ellipsis. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, please do, and while there do grab a cup of tea or coffee and explore other writings published there. The zine started as exclusively online, but a third issue in print is forthcoming, and a novella-in-flash by writer Stephanie Hutton is going to be published in May. It brings me tremendous joy to see Ellipsis grow since my first reading it.

I also had two stories long-listed in Reflex Fiction’s Winter 2017 competition. My stories will be in solid company with other wonderfully written stories in their anthology alongside the marvelous winning story. You can read “Watch Yourself Burn”  and “No Time For Stories” here. One of these stories was also short-listed for the TSS prize.

I just learned that a poem–yes, poem!–was accepted by The Bangor Literary Journal. Issue Two will be available April 30th.

I have a few more pieces coming out in May and will update again soon.

I am also very fortunate to be able to attend the inaugural writing retreat offered by the flash fiction maestro Kathy Fish in August in Breckenridge in August. Here is a mini-interview with me about it. I am looking forward to working with other talented writers and continue learning from Kathy (more about her in an another post).

I will write another post about my writing journey…since whenever I last posted here, my DIY MFA so to speak. I don’t have any excuses for not updating my blog other than: Twitter. The teaching and writing community on there is phenomenal. Well, that, and I just haven’t had the energy to make an effort when all efforts have been devoted to reading more than I have ever read (and I already read a lot) and learning the craft and writing and teaching and traveling and…and…and…

I hope all is well and more soon.

Thanks for still being around!
