Having been raised in Toronto.. I understand the love of city...amid the chaos is comfort. I walked these streets back in the 60's and 70's as a child with no fear...even the drunks and the junkies were people I talked to daily... road crosstown on streetcars and buses by myself at 8 doing errands for my mom....back then there were always policemen on the beat... you knew your neighbourhood cops... they looked out for people ....we all said goodmorning to eachother... somewhere some things changed... but I didn't... I still see those days bright an clear and yes it is when you have been away and the moment you see your city looming out in front of you....you sigh....I'm home :~)
Even though now I have continuously moved further and further out of the core...those memories find me and pull me in.
Thanks for the reminding today :~)
and welcome home

Very moving and erudite tribute to New York and its addictive charm;personally its endlees energy night & day to much for me except for a small occassional 'fix'; much prefer Denver & Colorado landscape; Red warmth of rural landscape and more accessible downtown; But Connamara/Galway is in my bones and I know wherever i go, like a homing pigeon, I will always return to its wild turf/stone landscape!
Thank you for sharing your family & city insight.
