“The Freedom of the Moon” ~ Robert Frost
June 1st: a cavernous new moon …
The Freedom of the Moon
I’ve tried the new moon tilted in the air
Above a hazy tree-and-farmhouse cluster
As you might try a jewel in your hair.
I’ve tried it fine with little breadth of luster,
Alone, or in one ornament combining
With one first-water star almost shining.
By walking slowly on some evening later,
I’ve pulled it from a crate of crooked trees,
And brought it over glossy water, greater,
And dropped it in, and seen the image wallow,
The color run, all sorts of wonder follow.
Wonderful! This poem is new to me, so thank you!Let me reply with a favorite haiku (you may well know it):The thief left it therethere in the windowthe shining moon. ~Ryokan~lucy
kind thanks, lucy. no, i did not know of this haiku so thank you as well. i found a used book of frost’s old poems that are not deemed as frequently published in the major anthologies etc. and it has been a pleasure….how much we may miss if we only look at what the world thinks we should check out by another creative… i like to keep exploring… ~a.
I will find a picture for this poem some day. But no, I don’t have to, it is Aquamarine 🙂
