after (the) thoughts

Stillness requires time to calibrate stillness.
This week’s after-(the)-thoughts are as follows:
It’s hard to pinpoint to one specific object that turns a house into a home. Of course my books were the first things unpacked but this time that didn’t do the trick since the books are in one room and they can be out of sight once I am no longer in that room. I realize this is ‘normal’ for those people who are used to living in houses and not New York City apartments, regardless of the size of a New York apartment or brownstone, where one room serves as a multipurpose room. For example, my dining room area in my apartment in New York City held all my bookshelves and books and it also had a small dining table where I also wrote and ate if the occasion called for it. My bedroom in New York City was big enough to also have an office nook where I also wrote and ate. Of course, one can set up their space however they want regardless of the city or size, but my point is that it has been challenging to accept the blessing that I have an entire room with built in shelves and an enormous built in desk all of which serves as a”study” dedicated to playing with words! Usually unpacking the hundreds of books carries out the function of turning a space into a home. This time it has required more. I have been too busy with work so I have only been proportionately bothered by this “it-is-not-quite-a-home” feeling.
And then today, finally, coming across this lamp shade made everything else fall into place although everything was already in place!
The Tap from which things fall into place runs on its own time. Be it in leaves or water, one has to keep swimming to see the colors of luck.
Beautiful photos, which jump to life because of the way you see them. There’s no place like home, and it’s good to read about you making yours. Offices that are separate (as if walled-in for writing anchorites) tend to collect things that pull them back into our favorite stream of life, so that will happen in good time. At the moment I’m still trying to clear more space in the accretion of stuff! 🙂
