2021 Bristol Short Story Prize Shortlist!

I am over the moon! I can’t quite believe it–the competition is fierce–that my short story, “This Is How You Lie,” made it! I felt I won just with the longlist, so I don’t even know what to say other than I am grateful to the readers, Joe at Bristol Short Story Prize, and the judging panel:  Irene Baldoni, Mahsuda Snaith and Tom Robinson.

I suppose it matters so much because I have read the published stories in the previous anthologies. They are filled with heart and meaning and resonate with me long after I finish them. I still remember reading some of them; the images and characters are part of me now. This was only my second time submitting and in between about 3-4 years went by. It takes ages to revise a story at the sentence level even when you get the story itself “right”.

The 20 stories on the shortlist will be published in the 14th anthology by Tangent Books and launched on October 9th 2021. The winner of this year’s Bristol Short Story Prize, the two runners up, plus the Sansom Award for Bristol-based writers will all be announced on October 9th.
